3つの複雑機構のすべてに優れた革新性が潜む
水平と垂直、2つの回転軸でキャリッジが立体的に回転する──ジャイロトゥールビヨンは、ジャガー・ルクルトによる、優れた大発明である。誕生は、2004年。本作は、これを搭載した5つ目のモデルだ。さらに永久カレンダーとミニッツリピーター、そして主ゼンマイからのトルクを均一化するコンスタントフォースも組み込んだ、超複雑モデルである。
ジャイロトゥールビヨンは、垂直方向の回転域を得るために、ケースの厚みを必要とする。それを軽減するため、同機構史上最少のキャリッジを実現。既存のキャリッジと比べ直径が1.4㎜以上小さくなった新ジャイロトゥールビヨンは、それを収めるケースを14.08㎜という実用的な厚みに抑えることに成功した。
水平方向は1周1分、垂直方向は1周26秒の各回転は、香箱からの駆動力を蓄えた第2のゼンマイが1分毎に放出する均一のトルクによって正確に制御される。このコンスタントフォースは、分針の運針にも使われる。すなわち針が1分毎に進む、ジャンピングミニッツとしているのだ。この機構は、ミニッツリピーターにも有益に働く。分針の歯車は1分刻みで進むため、リピーターの分単位の読み取りに誤差が生じないからだ。
そのゴングは、ブルーに染められダイヤル上に姿を見せる。左右2つずつを重ねた、それぞれ4組のゴングとハンマーは、15分単位の時打ちの音でウエストミンスター寺院のビッグ・ベンの音階を再現。前ページで述べた、正方形の断面をもつゴング形状、クリスタルゴング、そしてトレビュシェ・ハンマーという革新の機構もすべて盛り込んでいる。
オフセットダイヤル内に4桁数字の西暦表示、外周にポインターデイトと月・曜日表示窓を配置した永久カレンダーも、実に優秀である。リューズで一斉送りと、戻すことができるのだ。
