ノイズを抑えた軽快なディーゼルエンジン

「F-PACE」 — マイルドハイブリッドを採用した2リッターディーゼルターボを搭載するD200（720万〜810万円）、2リッターガソリンターボのP250（710万〜890万円）、5リッターV8スーパーチャージドのハイパフォーマンスモデル、SVR（1350万円）をラインナップ。

新たに追加されたエンジンは、最高出力204ps、最大トルク430Nmを発揮する最新の2リッター直列4気筒ディーゼルエンジンにマイルドハイブリッドシステムを搭載したもの。8速ATを組み合わせ駆動方式はもちろんAWDだ。約2トンある車両重量に対して、2リッターでは物足りないかと思いきや、走り出しはモーターのアシストもあり、また1750回転から430Nmというトルクを発揮するだけに、大人3人に荷物満載のシチュエーシェンでも力強く軽快に走る。何よりもディーゼルのノイズが抑え込まれており、とても洗練された印象を受けた。

F-PACEは、ジャガーが得意とするアルミニウム素材をボディに多用し、前後重量配分はほぼ50：50（カタログ値は前軸1040：後軸990kg）と、スポーツカーメーカーとしてのこだわりがしっかりとつまっており、それがおのずとハンドリングにあらわれている。

同門のランドローバーが新型ディフェンダーなどの導入で活気づくなか、F-PACEは陰に隠れた存在になっていたようにも感じていたけれど、なかなかどうしてさすがの出来栄えだと思う。熟成の進んだジャガーのSUV、再考には絶好の機会だ。
