名作を大胆にアレンジした高性能・高精度スタイル
高精度クロノメーターの開発やスプリングデタント脱進機の改良など、様々な革新機構の研究・開発により、時計産業を前進させた18世紀の英国人時計師、ジョン・アーノルド。この偉大な時計師が手がけたもっとも有名な作品が「クロノメーターNo.36（通称アーノルド36）」で、その高精度ぶりから史上初めて“クロノメーター”の名を冠したことで知られる。2018年発表の「トゥールビヨン・クロノメーターNo.36」は、同作品を現代的解釈で蘇らせた1本である。
本作の機構における目玉はやはりトゥールビヨン。特徴的な3スポークスタイルを取り入れたこの複雑機構は、スケルトン仕様の4-5時位置に設置され、その左隣ではトゥールビヨンケージとは別設計のスモールセコンドが秒を刻む。それらのちょうど真上には2つの香箱が横並びで置かれ、90時間のロングパワーリザーブに貢献。すなわち、これら計4つの機構と装備により、左右対称のスクエアデザインが形成されることになる。
また、このシンメトリーな意匠をいっそう個性あるものにするのが、トゥールビヨンや歯車をプレートに固定するためのブリッジ。扇型をメインに、それぞれ形状もサイズも異なる10数個のブリッジは、フレームを残してくり抜かれたスケルトン状に設計されており、表面にサテン仕上げ、エッジに面取りと鏡面仕上げを施した。それゆえ見た目も美しい、大きなデザイン要素ともなっている。
さらに、シースルーバック越しに眺めるムーブメント裏の姿も個性的だ。ブラックとシルバーに色分けされたプレートに、開口部を通して見えるトゥールビヨンケージや丸穴車などの歯車を、表側と同じスクエア状にレイアウトした。
デザインを大胆にアレンジしながら、トゥールビヨン搭載でロングパワーリザーブを確保、COSC公認クロノメーターも取得。オリジナルの名を受け継ぐにふさわしい高性能モデルに仕上げている。
