この機構が凄い！
Point 1
最低90秒間動き約225回もの羽ばたき
2つの羽根は、1秒間に約2.5回の速さで両方が動き、チャリオットを一生懸命牽く蝶の様子を表現した。その精密な動きには、目を見張らされる。ゴールド製の羽根には、繊細な筋目がいくつも彫金され、また丸い模様も造作され、本物の蝶の羽根の様子を再現する。
Point 2
固定式と可動式のホイールを重ねる
チャリオットのホイールは、2層構造。奥は固定されていて、手前が回転する。各車輪にはスポークの形が細工され、止まったままのスポークと回るスポークとの対比で、車輪の回転を視覚的に表現した。細いスポークも1本1本を面取りするなど、仕上げは最上級。
Point 3
木々も、0.2㎜厚のゴールドを手彫金
オートマタが森の木々の間にあることで、よりファンタジックな印象に。それぞれの木は、0.2㎜厚と極薄のホワイトゴールドで形作られ、枝を伸ばす様子や、そこについた葉、さらに樹皮の質感までも手彫金で再現している。この細工のために、特別な工具も作られた。
