BMW i3 × Tokyo Touring
近所や住んでいるエリアを意外と知らないでいることは多い。自分の住んでいるエリアを改めて旅する。今回はそんな遊びを選んでみた。舞台は東京。相棒は電気自動車のBMW i3。安全に移動できるクルマでの身近で気軽なドライブ。今の時代にあった遊びと言えるのではないだろうか。

屋外でのアクティビティは規制されてはいないものの（2020年7月上旬の東京）、以前のようには気軽に長距離移動しにくくなっている昨今。
大人としてしっかりと節度を持ち、周囲から後ろ指を指されない範囲でクルマ遊びをできないものか。そう考えて、思いついたのが今回の東京ツーリングである。
クルマは現在、クローズド状態で自由に移動できる手段として改めて価値ある存在となりつつある。今まで当たり前だった、家族や身内だけでの移動。そして他府県への移動は禁止されていないが控えたい……ということから、今の時期にピッタリと判断したのがこの東京巡りである。
東京や神奈川には「はとバス」があり、その利用者は年間80〜90万人。バブル期にせまる勢いだそうだ。純粋に他府県から東京を訪れた人が観光として利用するケースも多いが、実は東京都内やその近郊に住んでいる人も大勢利用している。
確かに近くに住んでいると有名観光地には寄りつかなくなるもの。東京タワーの真下に学校があったのに、もう20年近く東京タワーを間近で見ていない撮影スタッフなど、その分かりやすい例だろう。
遊びの相棒はBMWのi3とした。発電用のガソリンエンジンを搭載したEVモデルで、今回の東京ツアーぐらいならモーターの力だけで走れる頼もしいクルマである。コンパクトなボディも都心部向きということで選択した。

強力なモーターと軽量ボディを組み合わせたi3の走りは力強い。街中はもちろん、高速道路でも右足の動きひとつでラクに交通の流れをリードできる。アクセルを戻すと強めの回生ブレーキがかかるのも特徴で、慣れてしまえばブレーキをほとんど使わないで走ることも可能だ。RRレイアウトとEVならではの低重心を活かした軽快なハンドリングを含め、走りにこだわるBMWらしさ満点のEVである。内装のデザインや質感、使い易さと乗用車としての性能も高い。
