ウォッチランドグループ共同経営社の子息であるサスーン・シルマケスと、デザイナーのアントニオ・テラノヴァの2人によって、2005年に創設されたクストス。創業以来、“ハイテク”“スポーティ”“エレガンス”の3つのコンセプトを軸に、ニューラグジュアリーを提唱してきた。そのフラッグシップとなるのがダイナミックなトノー型のチャレンジクロノシリーズだ。創業15周年を迎えた2019年には新作「チャレンジクロノⅢ-S」をリリースしている。

本作の名に冠した“S”は“スポーティ”を意味し、特徴的なトノウ型はそのままに、スーパースポーツカーさながらのラグジュアリー感を追求。スケルトンやマルチコンポーネントを強調した高級スタイルとなる。注目は力強い厚みが増したケースサイドのデザインで、ブラックPVD加工のサイドガードとリューズガードを新たに取り入れた。これによりデザイン性と実用性を同時に高めている。

ケースやリューズ、プッシュボタンの素材には、最高水準のグレード5チタンを採用。おもに航空宇宙産業で使用され、通常のチタンより軽量にもかかわらず、はるかに高い強度、耐腐食性、耐磁性、耐火性などをあわせ持つ。また、自動巻きのローターもグレード5チタンとタングステンを融合し、巻き上げ効率を高めるとともに精悍な外観を実現した。

さらに文字盤もより斬新なデザインへ。9時位置のスモールセコンドの針はシチリアのシンボルマークである“巴紋”を象った三叉仕様に変更され、3時位置の日付表示一体型のパワーリザーブインジケーターは、古典的な扇型からモダンなディスク式にアップデート。これらと積算インダイヤルを重ねて配することで、以前よりも立体感ある文字盤としている。
