見る者を飽きさせない常速＆高速の2つのケージ
1770年、フランスを代表する思想家であり、実業家でもあったヴォルテールがジュネーブ近郊に開設した時計工房をルーツとするマニュファクチュール ロワイヤル。一時はムーブメントやケース、エナメル装飾など100人ほどの職人を抱える工房に発展するが、ヴォルテールの没後しばらくして工房は途絶えてしまう。時を経て2010年にその工房を復活させ、ミニッツリピーター＆トゥールビヨンで、108時間パワーリザーブを備えた自社製キャリバー搭載の「オペラ」を発表。これまでに8つの自社製コンプリケーション・ムーブメントを開発している。
2019年に発表した「ミクロメガス」は、ヴォルテールの同名の文学に登場する神話上の人物に敬意を表して製作されたモデルである。コンプリケーションをメインとするこのブランドらしく、文字盤下側の左右に設置されたオープンワークを通して2つのトゥールビヨンケージを見ることができる。そして、この2つのトゥールビヨンの違いこそが、本作における最大の特徴ということになる。
2つのトゥールビヨンは、どちらも固定のためのブリッジをもたないフライングトゥールビヨンだ。シリコン製エスケープメントで効率を高め、チタン製のケージで軽量化を図っている。一方で、
右のケージは1分間で1回転する通常のワンミニッツトゥールビヨンなのに対し、左のケージは6秒間で1回転。デザインや仕様こそ同じだが、左は右の10倍もの速度で回転する超高速仕様となる。つまり本作は、左右で回転速度がまったく異なるダブルトゥールビヨンなのである。
また、カラーリングにもこだわっており、トゥールビヨンケージの一部には手塗りで赤色を施した。さらにオールハンドメイドのラッカー仕上げ文字盤は、カッティングから仕上げまで職人の手作業で行われ、個性的なグリーンをまとう。見た目はシンプルだが、こだわりの詰まったコンプリケーションモデルだ。
