By 1963, showing in the Sala Bianca was a sign of prestige, with Mila Schon, Krizia and Valentino unveiling their collections. 1963 was also the first year men’s fashions were presented. It would be September of 1972 when the first official PITTI UOMO would be held, featuring men’s clothing and accessories.

PITTI continued to grow throughout the 1960s and 1970s. As haute couture moved to the ateliers in Rome, and Milan grew in importance for the pret a porter collections, PITTI introduced new trade fairs to compete with these emerging fashion centers. PITTI BIMBO (childrens), PITTI FILATI (spinning and knitwear), PITTI CASA (homeware) and later TASTE(foods), FRAGRANZE(perfume) AND SUPER (ladies accessories) were added.

1980 began with the closure of the Sala Bianca and the events moving to Fortezza da Basso, a fourteenth century fort, where they have been held ever since. The PITTI organisation rents the Fortezza but hopes to have the old venue updated with better facilities including a modern heating system. Welcome news to anyone who has ever endured the unregulated heat in the pavilions.
