独自のダブルスフェリオンが3D回転しながら重力を解放
2006年にジョナサン・パーネルによってスイスのジュラ山中に設立され、複雑機構に特化した時計作りで知られるパーネル。創業以来、同社が製作したすべての時計にはトゥールビヨンが搭載されており、10数年間に開発したトゥールビヨンキャリバーは13にもおよぶ。その高い技術力が評価され、これまで数々の賞と時計愛好家の称賛を手にしている。今年発表の「エスケープ IIS トレジャー バゲット」も、パーネルの確かな技術を活かした個性あふれるトゥールビヨンだ。
本作に搭載されたトゥールビヨンが特別である理由は高速のダブルスフェリオンを備えているから。“スフェリオン”とは3軸のジャイロトゥールビヨンを意味する。それぞれ軸が異なる3つのケージを相互に配置することで、まるでひとつの球体のように3次元の回転を行う。同社のスフェリオンは3軸トゥールビヨンの中では世界最速であり、これをメインダイヤルの下に2つ並べ、互いが逆方向に回転するというわけである。
また、ケージ内にはテンプとアンクルのみを擁し、ガンギ車は外部に固定されているのもスフェリオンの特徴。これは1875年に開発された古典的なポッター脱進機と呼ばれるもので、高速回転を実現するために特別に取り入れている。
このスフェリオンが他と違うもうひとつの理由が、世界で初めてケージに宝石をセッティングしたこと。外側のケージにそれぞれ152個ずつ、計304個のダイヤモンドをアームに敷きつめた。そのため、スフェリオンの精度や機能を損なうことなく、より広いアームの構造でケージを再設計。同時に、硬質なチタン製ケージにダイヤモンドを取り付けることも大きな課題だったが、高度な技術をもつ職人たちによりこれも克服した。
宝石をまとったダブルスフェリオンがケース内で華麗に回転。そのダイナミックな様子は、一体型サファイアガラスとサイドウインドウを通して楽しめる。
