2つのテンプがシンクロし互いの振動を安定させ合う
同じチューニングを施した2つのギターを並べて一方の弦を鳴らすと、触れていない他方の弦が音を奏でる。同じ長さの振り子を2つ吊るし、1つを揺らすと、やがてもう1つも揺れ始める。同じ固有振動数をもつ物体同士は、共振（共鳴）し合うという物理現象の時計精度への応用は、18世紀から試みられてきた。しかし実現しえたのは、クロックでも懐中時計でも、ごくわずかであった。
これを腕時計で初めて実現したのが、時計師フランソワ-ポール・ジュルヌが2000年に発表した、クロノメーター・レゾナンス。2つのエスケープメントを近接させて設置した構造をもち、各テンプは適切な距離で並列する。2つのテンプは互いに共振し、完璧なシンクロを果たす。外部からの衝撃で一方の振動が加速されれば、もう一方が減速し、やがて再びシンクロする。また共振によって互いの慣性が増幅されることも、精度の安定をもたらす。さらに彼は、共振の応用に加え、2つの輪列の間にトルクを安定させる1秒周期のルモントワール機構も組み込み、より精度を高めてみせた。
F.P.ジュルヌの名を一躍有名にした世界初の機構は、その後も丁寧に改良されてきた。そしてレゾナンス誕生20周年を迎えた2020年、これまでにない大きな手直しが加えられた。まず個別の香箱で動いていた2つの輪列を、1つの香箱で駆動するよう変更。ダイヤル中央には、駆動を2つに振り分けるディファレンシャルギアの姿が見える。逆に1つだったルモントワール機構は、各輪列にそれぞれ与えられ、一定の力で28時間精度を保つ。
リューズ機構も、改良。2時と4時に2つが備わり、上側は巻き上げと2つのダイヤルの針合わせを担う。そして下側を引くと、ダイヤルの下で板バネがレバーを持ち上げ、2つの秒針を帰零させる。
レゾナンスの名は同じだが、ムーブメントは全く別物。唯一無二の共振機構は、20周年を機に新時代を迎えた。
