薄型の名門のプライドを示す独自の発想と丁寧な手仕事
個性的で上品なクッション型ケースを携え、1994年に誕生した「ピアジェ エンペラドール」。ブランドが誇るエレガントな薄型スタイルを、コンプリケーションムーブメントの搭載で体現したこのシリーズから、初となるスケルトンタイプの自動巻きトゥールビヨンとして登場したのが「ピアジェ ポロ エンペラドール スケルトン トゥールビヨン」である。
伝統的に薄型高級ウォッチの名手として名を馳せてきたピアジェだが、このスケルトンモデルにもそうした哲学は貫かれている。ケース形状に合わせ、クッション型に自社で開発・製造されたキャリバー1270Sは、厚さがたったの5.05㎜。自動巻きかつ複雑系のトゥールビヨンにしてこの超薄型は、名門ピアジェでなければ成し遂げられない偉業といえる。その結果、時計自体の厚さも8.85㎜に抑えられ、快適な装着感が得られる。
また、キャリバー1270Sのもうひとつの特徴が、表と裏の反転構造を採用していること。したがって通常は裏側に備わる自動巻きローターやブリッジも反転し、表側に配置されている。これにより、ブラック加工が施されたプラチナ製マイクロローターが文字盤側の9時位置で存在感を発揮。さらに、フライングトゥールビヨンのキャリッジが1時位置、オフセンターの時分針が5時位置と、絶妙なバランスのデザインが実現したのである。
そして、これら個性あるデザインをより魅力的にするのが“オート・オルロジュリー”と呼ばれる仕上げ。ブリッジや受けのあらゆる面、トゥールビヨンキャリッジをはじめとする全パーツには、職人の手作業で面取りと装飾が行われる。同時に、スティール製のパーツおよび歯車にはサテン仕上げと面取りがなされ、ネジ穴といった微細な部分にまで面取りが施されている。このように時間と手間を惜しまず、一つひとつ丁寧に仕上げられるからこそ、本当に美しいスケルトントゥールビヨンが出来上がるのだ。
