JEEP WRANGLER × Off Road

いくら長距離、長時間走ってもその気にならないと経験できないのが雪道や泥などの「悪路」を走ること。オフロード体験は楽しいだけでなく様々なことを感じ、学べるアクティビティである。今月はこの男くさい大人の遊びに挑むべくジープラングラーで信州を目指してみた。

ＳＵＶを所有しているなら一度は体験したい遊び

現在、人気が集中しているＳＵＶ。その魅力の１つが悪路走破性である。「場所も選ばず走れる」ことがＳＵＶのＳＵＶたる所以である。

しかし、その性能をフルに引き出す機会は滅多にない。せっかく人気なのだからＳＵＶらしい遊びを……そう目論んで今月はクルマの泥んこ遊び「オフロード」を選んでみた。

場所は長野県の信州大町チャレンジフィールド。もちろんここ以外にもオフロードコースは日本全国に存在しているが、今回は「雪＋泥」も楽しめそうなこの場所を選んだ。

パートナーはハードなオフローダーの代表格であるジープラングラーである。近年は４ドアモデルが追加され、快適度も高くなったこの四角いＳＵＶで早速コースを訪ねてみる。

今回乗ったのは3.6ℓＶ６エンジンを搭載する「スポーツ」。２ℓターボも軽快で気持ちのいいエンジンだが、ジープらしさをより濃い口で味わえるのは滑らかで重厚なＶ６だ。全体的に快適性が上がったとはいえ、高速道路での安心感や乗り心地は乗用車志向の強い最新ＳＵＶには及ばない。とくにオフロード志向の強いタイヤを履いているスポーツの場合、その傾向は強めに現れる。快適性を重視するなら上位モデルの「サハラ」がオススメだ。
