想像するほど“ガチガチ”じゃない

ロータス「スポーツ410」 — 「スポーツ」は公道ユース、「カップ」はサーキットユースに重点が置かれたモデル。0-100km/h加速は3.4秒、最高速度は290km/hとされる

ノンアシストのステアリングも動きだしてしまえば気にならない。乗り心地も想像していたほどガチガチなものじゃなかった。足回りにはレースカーなどにも使われる英国のナイトロン製3段階調整式ダンパーを公道用にチューニングしたものを採用。タイヤはサーキット走行にも使えるミシュランのパイロットスポーツカップ2を履く。路面からのインフォメーションがダイレクトに手のひらを通して伝わってくる。ぴったりと意のままに狙った通りのラインを走ることができる。

速度域があがると、フロントボンネット上のカーボンファイバー製のフロントスプリッターやリアの大型ウイングが効果を発揮し、ダウンフォースが高まる。車重わずか1110kgで400psを超え、パワーウェイトレシオ約2.7kg/psというマシンを存分に楽しむためには、やはりサーキットなどクローズドな場所に行くしかない。

今後は、ロータスといえども電動化や最新安全装備とは無縁ではいられなくなるだろう。2019年には日本でも初のEVスポーツカー「Lotus Evija（ロータスエヴァイヤ）」を公開しているし、ロータス初のSUVを開発中との噂もある。「エリーゼ」や「エキシージ」ほどピュアなスポーツカーでありながら、マニュアルトランスミッションを採用するモデルは世界的にもほとんどない。速さだけなでなく、操る楽しさを備えたピュアスポーツカーを求めるならば、いまが最後のチャンスなのかもしれない。
