革新的気質を体現する驚異の軽量スタイル
2002年の創業以来、未来的なビジョンのもと、数々の特許技術と自社製キャリバーを生み出してきたドゥ・ベトゥーン。2010年に発表した「DB28」のファーストモデルは、ポケットウォッチに想を得た12時位置のリューズや、球体表示のムーンフェイズといった前衛的なスタイルが評価され、翌年のジュネーブウォッチグランプリ（GPHG）で金の針賞を受賞している。そして今年、その誕生10周年を記念する「DB28 スティールホイール サファイヤ トゥールビヨン」が登場した。新作は、毎時3万6000振動のハイビートキャリバーを搭載したトゥールビヨン。立体的な多層構造ダイヤルの6時位置から、わずか0.18gの超軽量なケージを備えたトゥールビヨンを見ることができる。30秒で1回転するこの高速ケージは、シリコン製のガンギ車やチタン製のフレームなど、軽量化が図られた63個のパーツで構成されるコンパクトで軽やかな設計となり、重量と慣性を最小限に抑えることで高い計時精度を実現する。
またダイヤルの中央では、2つの香箱をつなぐデルタ型のブリッジが絶大な存在感を放つ。これはファーストモデルから受け継ぐ意匠であり、素材にはブルーに染めたサファイアクリスタルを新たに採用。一方、2つの香箱のバレルカバーにはクリアなサファイアクリスタルを用い、ブルーチタンのリングで囲った。超硬な素材を活かして機能性を高めるだけでなく、その透明感が生む奥行きのあるデザインにも大いに貢献している。
さらにケースには特許取得のフローティングラグを取り入れた。ポリッシュ仕上げのチタンを大胆にくり抜いた軽量設計にして、緩やかなカーブを描くフローティング式のラグに。この特殊仕様によって抜群の着け心地が味わえる。
初代のスタイルを踏襲しながら、先進素材の採用や設計の見直しにより、いっそう進化した旗艦シリーズの最新作。ブランドの革新性を体現した1本である。
