歴史的ホテル「Palace Hotel」

サンフランシスコには多くのラグジュアリーホテルがあるが、その中で、独自の存在感を放っているのが「Palace Hotel」である。

ゴールドラッシュ時代でもある1875年に創業したパレスホテルは、サンフランシスコ初の高級ホテルであった。その後、長きにわたりサンフランシスコのランドマークとして街の歴史を見守り、時代とともに進化をしてきた貴重な歴史的建造物でもある。

1909年にリニューアルをし、1989年には歴史的価値を残しながら修復が行われ、今もなお、独特の存在感を放ちながらサンフランシスコの街をを見守り続けている。また1998年に公開されたデビッド・フィンチャー監督の映画『ゲーム』（マイケル・ダグラスやショーンペンが出演）の舞台として使われたことでも有名だ。

多くの俳優や著名人たちも訪れた、ダウンタウンの象徴的存在としての重みや歴史の深さは、館内のヒストリーミュージアムスペースに展示されている。たとえばガラステーブルの中に創業当時からのホテルのポストカードがアートのように並んでいたり、ガラス棚の中に昔のパンフレットやホテルの著名顧客たちの写真などが陳列されていたりと、その時代時代を生き抜いてきたホテルの様子を知り、楽しむことができるのだ。
