数字ディスクで時を読み取るデシマルミニッツリピーター
ダイヤル両サイドの大きな窓に現れる数字が、現在時刻を示す──機械式デジタル表示時計ツァイトヴェルクは、2009年に誕生した。分表示の10と1の位それぞれに専用ディスクが与えられ、数字は大きく見やすい。ランゲらしい優れた視認性をもつ精巧なメカニズムに2015年、ミニッツリピーターが組み込まれた。その設計は、実に画期的で独創的である。ほぼすべてのミニッツリピーターには専用の香箱が備わり、起動時にレバーを大きくスライドさせることで、時刻読み取り機構を動かすと同時にゼンマイを巻き上げる。ランゲの技術者は、リピーターの起動操作をボタン式とした。何故なら、ゼンマイを巻き上げる必要がないからだ。最大3枚の時刻表示用ディスクを瞬転させるため、ツァイトヴェルクの主ゼンマイは極めて大きいトルクをもつ。その香箱で、リピーターも駆動させているのだ。
また時刻読み取り機構は、デジタル表示式であることを生かした巧妙な設計となっている。ダイヤルで時刻を示す3枚の数字ディスクに、それぞれディスクとともに動くスネイルカムを設置。各スネイルカムの動きに順応するレバーが、各時刻単位の打鐘回数を決めるラックの位置を定める。かつてないシンプルでコンパクトな時刻読み取り機構は、デジタル表示式ならでは。さらにこのメカニズムで、打鐘の単位も独創性を得た。分の10の位のディスクとそれに設置したスネイルカムは10分毎に動くため、時打ちの第2音が15分単位ではなく、10分単位のデシマル式リピーターとなったのである。
こうした独創的なリピーター機構を安全に扱える装置も、いくつも備わる。リピーター作動中においては、数字ディスクの切り替え装置とリューズ機構とがロックされ、逆にリューズを操作時にはボタンが押せなくなるなど、様々な安全機構が盛り込まれている。繊細な複雑機構を誤操作で壊す心配なしに使える設計思想もまた、ランゲらしい。
