デザインと実用性を同時に追求した個性派の流線型
フェノメンはカーデザインに従事していたアレクサンドル・メイエーと、ラ・ジュー・ペレ社で開発部長を務めた時計技術者が出会い、2017年に創設された気鋭のフレンチブランドである。ブランド名は“感覚によって感じ取られるもの”を意味するギリシャ語にちなんでおり、フランス時計産業のメッカであるフランシュ＝コンテ地方からパーツを供給しつつ、ムーブメントパーツはラ・ジュー・ペレ、レトログラード機構はミモテックというように、スイスの卓越した技術も取り入れている。そうして完成したモデルが「PH-01」である。
このモデルは大胆な流線型デザインのドライバーズウォッチ。このタイプで重要なのは、ドライバーがハンドルを握ったまま瞬時に時間を確認できることであり、本作もひと目で時間が分かるＷレトログラード表示を採用する。傾斜をつけた扇型ダイヤルに、ジャンピングレトログラード式アワー表示、レトログラード式ミニッツ表示を上下に並べて配し、それぞれ一体型の3D針で表示。いかなる場合も時分針が重なることはなく、また両方のデザインに統一性があるため、瞬時に時刻を読み取ることが可能となる。
そしてムーブメントは、船上での揺れや温度変化に精度が左右されぬよう特殊な多層構造となるマリンクロノメーターにインスピレーションを得ている。1層目に香箱と巻き上げ機構、2層目にレトログラード機構、3層目に脱進・調速機構と、各機構を3層構造で最適な位置に設置。最上階のテンプを含む脱進・調速機構は、シースルー状のダイヤルを通して見渡せる。さらにツインバレルで100時間パワーリザーブも確保した。
優雅な曲線と力強い直線で構成された流線型ケースはどこから見ても美しく、フレンチブランドらしいこだわりとセンスが活かされている。同時に、人間工学に基づくサイズ感とフィット感によって、快適な着け心地が保証されるのだ。
