永久カレンダーに有益なスタンバイ・モード
オープンワークを施したダイヤル下部に、永久カレンダー用の2つのインダイヤルと閏年までをカウントする表示窓が備わる。これら各暦が、スプリング付きの歯車を組み込むことで瞬時に切り替わる、ジャンピング式表示で特許を申請中。極めて秀逸なメカニズムではあるが、これが本作の主役ではない。8時位置から上に伸びる9時位置の小さな扇形の目盛り用の針は、ケース左下のボタンを押す度に指す向きが、5Hzと1.2Hzに切り替わる。そしてケースバックを見れば、2つのテンプの存在が、異彩を放つ。モデル名にツインビートとあるように、各テンプは左が5Hz（毎秒10振動）、右が1.2Hz（毎秒2.4振動）と、異なるビートを刻み、いずれか一方にボタンで切り替えられる前代未聞のメカニズムこそが、このモデルの主役だ。着用時には毎秒10振動のハイビートで優れた精度と耐衝撃性とを得るアクティブ・モードを選び、時計を外したら毎秒2.4振動のスタンバイ・モードに設定する。時計を置いた状態では、超ロービートでも精度は保たれる。そしてスタンバイ・モードにしておけば実に65日間もの超ロングパワーリザーブが、得られるのである。長期間時計が止まったままだと調整が面倒な永久カレンダーにとって、これは実に有益だ。
香箱による駆動力は、ディファレンシャルギアで2つに分離され、各テンプそれぞれの輪列に振り分けられる。モードの切り替えを司るのは、2つのテンプの間にあるV型の板バネ。ボタンを押すとこれが働き、一方のテンプの振動を止める。ストップセコンド機構に似た仕組みは、精度に影響を及ぼすことなく、瞬時にモードが切り替えられる。また毎秒10振動を動かすトルクは、2.4振動の超ロービートには過剰。そこで、スタンバイ・モードの際に働くトルクを軽減する装置が香箱に取り付けられている。
この振動数切り替え機構も、特許を取得。老舗メゾンは、革新性に秀でる。
